Battery storage for mine sites: less diesel, fewer engine hours

Fewer engines running, fewer litres burned, and the tonnes counted for Safeguard.

Off-grid mine power stations often run more engines than the load needs, because spinning reserve has to cover the loss of a unit. A battery can carry part of that reserve and absorb load steps, so fewer engines run at better loading. Add solar, and the battery carries daytime energy into the night shift.

Where the savings come from

Off-grid power station

What we model: litres saved, engine hours, maintenance intervals

Carries spinning reserve, absorbs load steps, lets engines run at better loading

Solar and storage hybrid

What we model: renewable fraction, fuel saved, solar size

Stores solar for the night shift and smooths cloud ramps

Grid-connected processing

What we model: demand charges, connection capacity

Shaves demand peaks

Camps and villages

What we model: generator-off hours, fuel, noise

Carries overnight load from stored solar

Light vehicle and equipment charging

What we model: connection size, charging schedule

Buffers charging peaks

Safeguard facilities

A site that emits 100,000 tonnes CO2-e or more of scope 1 emissions a year is a Safeguard facility, and its baseline falls 4.9% a year to 2030. Diesel you don't burn is scope 1 you don't report. We put the tonnes next to the dollars in every mining study.

Engines-off operation

Running with every engine off needs grid-forming inverters and controls that work with your power station. We confirm both for your site in the feasibility study, before any hardware is ordered.

  2. Fixed-fee feasibility and sizing study.

Covers the fuel model, reserve policy, solar option, Safeguard tonnes and payback.

  3. Supply and commissioning.

Staged, with milestone payments tied to factory release, shipment and commissioning.

  4. Life-of-mine support.

Operator training, monitoring, spares and capacity testing.

Mining FAQs

How much diesel can a battery save at a mine site?

It depends on the load profile, the generator fleet, the spinning reserve policy and whether solar is added. We model litres and engine hours from your own data in the feasibility study.

Can a battery replace spinning reserve?

It can carry part or all of it, depending on your reliability requirements and the control system. We work through the reserve policy with your electrical team.

Will the system handle heat and dust?

Our containerised systems are rated to operate from -25 °C to +55 °C. They are liquid cooled and housed in IP55 enclosures.

Does displacing diesel help with the Safeguard Mechanism?

Yes. Diesel burned on site is scope 1, so every litre displaced lowers reported emissions. We include the tonnes in the study.

Can the battery move when the mine plan changes?

Containerised systems can be relocated. We plan for it in the design.

How are large projects paid for?

In stages, with milestone payments tied to factory release, shipment and commissioning.
